I always love reading the Beatitudes, and love the Common English Version's of "Happy People".
ReplyDeleteThrougout these verses, we are reminded that private time with God is very important - set aside time each day to talk with God. "Showy religion" and "Showy Acts" are not necessary. It is not important that others around us see and recognize our good acts - "Your Father who sees what you do in secret will reward you".
One passage that I have been particularly fond of is Matthew 6:25-34 - Do Not Worry
Whenever I have worries, I read this passage - the ending verse sums it up "Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Even as a teen, I have been drawn to the beatitudes. These verses have provided comfort and assurance repeatedly throughout my life. And as I read them with fresh eyes through this study,I also realize they are our recipe for peaceful living, if we truely seek to be more like Christ. These are attitudes that we need to embrace and adopt. Just because we are NOT humble all of the time, does not mean that we should not attempt to be. The same with NOT realizing that we are poor in spirit and realize our need for Christ. These are "beautiful attitudes"....thus BEA-TITUDES...that will directly change our behaviors making us more like Christ and bringing us closer to God. Boy...I love these scriptures!
